Camden and Islington Alcohol Pathway: Help Improve Liver Disease Treatment

Since lock-down there has been a marked increase in admissions of patients with alcohol-use disorders, including alcohol-related liver disease. The Camden and Islington Alcohol Pathway is designed to help identify those people with alcohol-related liver disease who are most likely to benefit from hospital referral without liver specialist review. The CCG encourages you to make use of this pathway whenever you decide to assess a patient with an alcohol-use disorder. The similar pathway for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has delivered an 80 per cent reduction in unnecessary referrals and a five-fold improvement in the identification of people with liver disease.
