Coronavirus: Latest Information and Advice
The Central Alerting System (CAS) has issued an updated alert (07/02/20) relating to the novel coronavirus, now known as 2019-nCoV.
Key changes include:
- expansion of geography for clinical case definition to mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Macau
- modification of the clinical case definition so that fever without any other symptoms is sufficient criteria for testing (if the patient has also travelled from or transited through the named countries in the previous 14 days)
- alternative clinical diagnosis for fever in a returning traveller should be considered and tests performed at local NHS laboratories, according to published Public Health England guidance.
An updated management flowchart is available, alongside further useful advice and resources on the Infectious Diseases topic page on the Islington GP website.
