Summaries of Attendance at UCLH Emergency Department
University College London Hospitals (UCLH) has recently learned that some summaries of attendance at the Emergency Department (ED) between 1 April 2019 and 3 August 2020 were not sent to GPs.
This only relates to some patients who were seen in ED, not to patients who attended ED and were admitted to the hospital. Unfortunately, the failsafe report, created to flag up where clinicians hadn’t completed a summary or it had failed to send through electronically, did not capture all the missed summaries of attendance at ED.
UCLH fixed the issue on 3 August 2020 and the department is using the report successfully and monitoring it on a daily basis.
The trust is working closely with commissioners and GP representatives to develop an action plan for the missed summaries of attendance. By the start of next week, all the data should be available to conduct a detailed analysis of the affected patients, assess and stratify the potential risk, and rapidly develop a detailed action plan to share with you.
