Update: Local School Immunisation Catchup Arrangements 2019/20

Vaccination UK will provide catch up clinics for children who have missed a vaccination that was scheduled in school. A clinic timetable can be downloaded in the side bar to the right.

The clinics offer the influenza vaccination as well as HPV, Men ACWY and DTP vaccines (see eligibility criteria below).

All children from reception age to school year six are eligible for the flu vaccination. 

The clinics are drop-in and no appointment is necessary, however children attending special school can pre-book an appointment. The opening hours are from 3.30pm-6.00pm

Vaccine Eligibility

  • Flu Nasal Spray: reception to year six
  • HPV: Boys in year eight, girls from year eight upwards
  • DTP & Men ACWY: Year ten and above as a catchup programme for those children who were not vaccinated in year nine.

To access records for patient flu vaccinations sign up to Sonar (it only takes two minutes). You can also acknowledge your patients or mark as NOP direct from the system.

Please use the London Flu website to search for pharmacies providing the flu vaccination service in London. Please signpost patients to pharmacies as appropriate.

Key messages 2018/19

There were three types of flu vaccine recommended for the 2018/19 flu season:

  • adjuvanted trivalent flu vaccine (aTIV) – recommended for patients aged 65+ (see here for patient leaflets)
  • quadrivalent vaccine (QIV) – recommended for at risk adults aged 18–65 and at risk children aged 6 months–2 years
  • live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) nasal spray – recommended for:
    • children aged 2 and 3 years (via GP surgery)
    • school-aged children from reception to year 6 (via schools)
  • Practices are encouraged to consider the need for flu and pneumococcal vaccination at the same time.
