During the Covid-19 outbreak, peer supporters are still visiting postnatal wards each day, and carrying out phone and video calls. The Infant Feeding Specialist Service is also still operating.

Islington Breastfeeding Peer Support Service is offered to all mothers resident in Islington. First contact is usually on the hospital wards at University College London Hospital and Whittington Hospital, or through follow-up telephone calls on discharge. However, any Islington mother can contact the service for support, irrespective of where they gave birth.

Breastfeeding support is offered for as long as is needed. Mothers can choose to access the following support at any time:

Referrals from health professionals are contacted initially by telephone. Women with complex breastfeeding needs will be able to access further specialist infant feeding support if necessary.

Eligibility criteria


  • Mothers before and after pregnancy, who are Islington residents
  • Family members and health professionals can contact the service for information and support.

How to refer


Mothers can refer themselves Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, by phone or by email
