This service is for adults and children with complex needs who are unable to use or access general dental services.

Eligibility criteria


Children aged 15 years or younger with

  • an anxious or uncooperative approach to accepting dental care
  • physical disabilities, learning disabilities or medical conditions requiring special dental care
  • a need for specialist care e.g. sedation, management of trauma, hypoplastic teeth

or who are

  • 'looked after' or considered 'at risk'

Adults (16+) with

  • moderate and severe learning disabilities
  • severe physical disabilities including bariatric (severely overweight) patients
  • dental phobia
  • severe mental health problems including dementia
  • long-term drug or alchohol problems

or who are

  • housebound 
  • homeless 


Patients who can attend primary dental care: patients should always be initially advised to attend a local dental practice.
