The urgent referral clinic at Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital (RNTNE) provides speedy access and care to adult and paediatric (2+ years) patients with urgent ENT problems. The urgent referral clinic is:

  • not a walk-in clinic
  • only sees adults or paediatric patients who are aged two years and above

Eligibility criteria


  • Haemorrhage
    • nasal: non-arrested epistaxis episodes
    • aural: due to trauma, surgery or infection
    • throat: due to trauma or surgery
  • Acute infections pertaining to ear, nose and throat (e.g. otitis externa, acute aural discharge, acute tonsillitis, peri-tonsillar abscess, acute nasal discharge)
  • Acute pain, pertaining to all ENT regions
  • Non-acute airway obstruction
  • Acute vertigo
  • Foreign bodies suspected or proved


  • Children under the age of two

How to refer

EMIS form

Referral methods: E-referral, EMIS managed referral

Refer via e-Referral Service (e-RS), selecting the urgent referral clinic and attaching a completed EMIS form.

A referral form can be found in ISL EMIS under
ISL global documents > ENT > RNTNE Urgent Referral Form 

For any patients that need to be seen urgently on the day, please contact the Urgent Referral Clinic

If accepted, a completed urgent referral form should then be emailed
