NCL Evidence Based Interventions and Clinical Standards Policy

The North Central London Evidence Based Interventions and Clinical Standards (EBICS) Policy was previously called the Procedures of Limited Clinical Effectiveness (PoLCE) Policy. The decision to change the name followed feedback from resident groups, voluntary organisations and local Healthwatches that ‘PoLCE’ was confusing and didn’t describe the policy scope or aims.

The Individual Funding Requests (IFR) team triages all GP requests to refer to secondary care for assessment and treatment of an EBICS procedure or intervention. Please use the EBICS application form, available in EMIS, to apply for approval. You will find a list of procedures contained within the policy. Relevant supporting information such as clinic letters and a summary printout of the GP record should be attached wherever possible.

If there are exceptional clinical circumstances for a treatment or drug to be provided that the CCG does not usually fund, cases should be referred to the Individual Funding Request (IFR) Panel using the online application form via Blueteq. See the NCL EBICS policy for how decisions are made. The panel meets monthly. Requests are not accepted directly from patients.
